Philip Stone, Founder

As co-founder of Stone & Company in 1986, Phil Stone spent over 30 years providing tax and accounting services to hundreds of closely-held businesses in a wide variety of industries. Phil developed numerous close relationships as a valued advisor to small businesses, many of these spanning generations. Phil greatly appreciates the many friendships and mutual loyalties that have resulted from his work with individual clients over the decades, and since the merger with RS Miller and Associates has moved into an advisory role.

Phil began his career in accounting as an internal auditor for Connecticut General Life in Hartford, Connecticut (now “CIGNA”). Subsequently he became an audit supervisor in the Boston office of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now “KPMG”). Before starting Stone & Company in 1986, he spent three years as the Controller of the Central Hospital in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Matt Stone, Founder

Matt Stone co-founded Stone & Company in 1986 with his brother Phil Stone and brought a wealth of expertise with a special focus on tax matters. Over the years he has helped clients of all sizes and industries navigate accounting issues, and he has established many deep relationships with individuals and regional businesses and institutions. Matt now serves the Stone team in an advisory role.

   
Before helping to launch Stone, he served as an Audit Supervisor in the Boston office of Deloitte Haskins & Sells and as the Controller of New England Baptist Hospital. He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of Wellforce where he served as chairman of the finance and audit committee, member of the Board of Trustees of the Tufts Medical Center Indemnity Company and the past Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tufts Medical Center where he served as chairman of the finance, investment and audit committees.

Stone Today

Stone & Company completed its merger with RS Miller & Associates in 2019. Now guided by its managing partner, Rob Miller, the larger firm continues to grow and remains one of the fastest growing and most well-respected brands in the greater Boston and surrounding areas.
